Short answer: Animated explainer video cost depends on length, style and how much has to be made from scratch. On the open market, prices run from a few hundred dollars to tens of thousands. At Dvideo Productions, projects start at $900. Timing depends on how fast the script settles and how quickly feedback comes back, more than on the animation itself.

What you are actually paying for

An animated explainer is a short video that makes one idea easy to grasp. It usually sits on a homepage, a product page or a landing page.

The price covers several kinds of work stacked together:

    • A script that says one thing clearly, in plain words.
    • Visual design, meaning the look, colors and type that match your brand.
    • Animation, which is the motion that carries the viewer through the idea.
    • Voice, either professional narration or an AI Presenter on screen.
    • Sound, captions and the final files for the places you will post it.

Every item on that list takes time. The more of it that starts from a blank page, the more the video costs.

    What the wider market charges

It helps to know the general ranges before you compare quotes. These are broad market figures, not our prices.

    • Template tools and gig sites can be a few hundred dollars. The result often looks like everyone else's.
    • Freelance animators often charge somewhere between one and a few thousand dollars per finished minute.
    • Specialist animation agencies commonly quote five figures for a custom minute with drawn characters.

Per minute pricing is common in this field. That is one reason a tight 60 second video is usually a better buy than a loose two minute one.

The choices that push the price up or down

A few decisions move the number more than anything else.

Custom characters versus graphic motion. Drawn and rigged characters are the most expensive style. Animated text, icons, shapes and data are far lighter work and often explain a business better.

Using what you already have. Your logo, brand colors, product screenshots, photos and short clips can all be animated. Starting from your own assets cuts design time sharply. Licensed stock can fill the gaps.

Length. Every extra second has to be designed, animated and voiced. We cover sensible lengths in How long should a corporate video be?

Voice. Narration from a professional, a voice from your own team, or an AI Presenter video each changes the budget differently. An AI presenter also makes later updates easier, since nobody has to record again.

Music. We offer a royalty-free library as a paid add-on, permit included. If you want to use a specific popular or commercially released song, licensing that track is your responsibility.

Versions. A wide version for your site, a square one for social and a short teaser each add work. Plan them up front rather than asking at the end.

    Where the weeks go

People expect the animation to take the longest. Usually it is the decisions before it.

    • Script. Getting several people to agree on a few short paragraphs is often the slowest step.
    • Look. A style frame or two shows how the video will feel before motion begins.
    • Voice. Narration is recorded or the AI Presenter is set up once the script is locked.
    • Animation. The motion is cut to the voice, then sound and captions are added.
    • Review rounds. You watch each cut, send notes, and we revise.

Every client gets a private online portal for this. You watch each cut there and pin notes to the exact second, which keeps review rounds short and clear. Your proposal sets out the schedule for your own project.

How to keep it lean without looking cheap

A focused brief saves more money than any shortcut in the animation.

    • Pick one audience and one message. An explainer that tries to cover everything explains nothing.
    • Send your brand guide, logo files and any product screens at the start.
    • Name one person who signs off, so feedback arrives once and in one voice.
    • Lock the script before animation starts. Changing words later means changing motion.
    • Favor clean graphic motion over drawn characters unless characters truly serve the idea.

Our post on what motion graphics and titles add to a business video shows how far graphic animation can go on its own.

    Comparing quotes fairly

Two quotes for an explainer can describe very different videos. Ask each studio the same questions.

    • How long is the finished video, and in which formats?
    • Who writes the script, and is it included?
    • Is the voice included, and what kind?
    • How many review rounds come with the price?
    • Will my own brand assets and screens be used?
